Naturalization

Naturalization

Naturalization is the process through which eligible foreign nationals can become U.S. citizens, granting them the full rights and responsibilities of citizenship, including the ability to vote, hold a U.S. passport, and enjoy additional protections and opportunities.

Lawful Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) are eligible for citizenship 3 to 5 years after obtaining their permanent residence. If you have been married to and living with your U.S. citizen spouse for 3 years, you are eligible to apply for citizenship.

Most other applicants, including those who obtained their permanent residence through employment and are not married to a U.S. citizen, must apply at the 5-year mark.
